Jean
Marshall established the "Barnsley Arabic Dance" group in 1998,
with the aim of bringing women together to learn about Middle Eastern
Dance in a relaxed and non-competitive atmosphere. She organises regular
classes and workshops, in South Yorkshire, bringing experienced and authentic
teachers of the dance into the area, to share their knowledge and experience
and to meet the enthusiastic groups of dancers in this area.
Jean's style of teaching makes the dance accessible to all women, in the spirit of the Middle Eastern culture where the dance is handed from mother to daughter across the generations. Her classes put the emphasis on gentle aerobic dance exercise. She has worked in community dance with non-dancers and with more experienced dancers at the Yorkshire Dance Centre in Leeds.
Over the past seven years Jean has trained with internationally recognised teachers of Arabic Dance: Cathy Selford, Liza Wedgewood, Pauline Sayhi, Karine Butchart and Amel Tafsout. Contact Jean on: jean.marshall2@ukonline.co.uk |
